Full stops, fun and a full house: Writing Bingo has it all

At Pobble, we’re all about making writing exciting, and that includes editing. Let’s face it, checking your work isn’t always the most thrilling part of writing, but what if it felt more like a game than a chore?

Say hello to our Writing Bingo Card, a free printable that turns editing into a challenge your pupils will actually enjoy.✏️

What is it?

It’s a bingo card filled with key writing skills from the Key Stage 2 curriculum. Pupils tick off things like checking tricky spellings, adding wow words, using paragraphs or similes, and reading their writing back in full. Each feature encourages children to reflect on what makes great writing.

How does it work?
After finishing a piece of writing, pupils grab their bingo card and see how many boxes they can tick off. Some might get a full house straight away. Others can build it up over a few pieces over the term. Either way, they’re practising essential skills and building editing confidence as they go.

Why is it helpful?

Editing often gets rushed. Pupils tend to focus on one sentence or word and forget to look at their writing as a whole. The bingo card encourages them to pause, reflect and think about their writing more deeply. Have they used paragraphs? Does it flow? Will their reader understand it? It also introduces key habits like reading their work aloud and checking for purpose and audience.

Want to add extra motivation?

You could let pupils shout “Bingo!” when they get a full house or reward effort with a sticker or small prize. Some teachers use the card across a whole term and challenge their class to complete every box. However you use it, a little celebration goes a long way in helping children feel proud of their progress.

Perfect with Pobble 365

The bingo card pairs brilliantly with Pobble 365 prompts. Use a daily image to inspire writing, then bring out the card to help with editing. It’s a simple way to make writing improvement part of your routine.
